SACHSENHAUSEN. A dual-purpose space, you'll notice an inviting café section on your left and a casual bar on the right, with an open kitchen in between. The café is ideal for lunch or dinner, with a standard menu of pastas, soups, and salads. Daily specials are reliably good, too. The bar offers some of the same food that is especially good for snacking or sharing, like nachos and bruschetta. Several vegetarian options are available too.

CITY CENTER. Elbows on the table are de-rigeur as early morning hipsters lounge, stretch and sip coffee across the marble topped tables and park benches refurbished to banquettes with cushy leather seats at Karin's. Form follows fashion with a host of breakfast items including a goat cheese salad or whole-grain ratatouille crepes. Desserts and pastries to go with an afternoon macchiato, too.

CITY CENTER. Housed in the exquisite Frankfurter Hof Hotel, this wonderful eatery serves up some of the best international dining in the city. Feel like a VIP dining at intimate tables set against angled walls, lavishly covered with autographed photos of film stars. Bring your appetite, be prepared to indulge and try the shellfish, steaks or the inventive stewed beef.

CITY CENTER. Adjacent to the Schirn Art Gallery is this huge café, with vaulted ceilings and a regularly changing selection of art to gaze at while you wait for your food. The menu has a bit of Mediterranean flavor, with interesting fresh salads and gourmet sandwiches. Some evenings feature live music or dancing, and the Sunday brunch is a fantastic all-you-can-eat affair.

NORTH FRANKFURT. Hipsters in low-slung trousers and complicated shoes hang out here to enjoy an after-dinner drink, but Staatcafe is also a fabulous place for breakfast. There are plenty of options, from a simple selection of rolls, butter and jam to a massive breakfast for two which includes: fruit, a variety of breads and rolls with jam, butter and honey, meats and cheeses, eggs, coffee, and juice or sparkling wine.
